Russell Crowe Admits Bingo Love

Bingo used to have a pretty uncool (though undeserved) image. It was once a sad fact that if you mentioned the game to most people, the image it would create would be one of blue rinses and nicotine stained halls. Well, it turns out that the range of people who enjoy the game these days is even wider than most people could have imagined. For example, he may well be better known as the super angry Kiwi actor who enjoys throwing mobile phones at people but in a recent interview, Russell Crowe admitted a love for something a little less violent. That's right folks, turns out that the Hollywood hard man has a soft spot for a bit of bingo!  

Crowe apparently discovered a love for the game when he briefly worked as a bingo caller back in his native New Zealand though his time in the role was cut short as the cheeky actor just couldn't help but spice up the calls; an aspect of his personality which didn't exactly thrill his bosses. Talking about his love for the game, his sister in law said, “Russell used ruder versions of the bingo calls. His bosses failed to see the funny side and booted him out, but he says he always checks to see where the local venue is when he moves somewhere new.”

Turns out that the BAFTA winning actor also spread his love of the game to his wife and, during her pregnancy, got her as hooked on bingo as he is. So there you have it! Though it may not come as a great surprise to us who understand the draw of bingo that even celebrities enjoy a good old fashioned flutter, this news certainly does away with the old clichés of blue rinses and zimmer frames doesn't it?
